Questioning Pay Raises for Judges

Albany, NY – The New York State Court of Appeals has ruled that the legislature erred when it declined to give judges a pay raise.

The legislature has not approved a pay hike for state lawmakers in a dozen years, and has also refrained from giving judges a raise, following a tradition of linking any salary changes in the legislative branch of government to the pay for the judicial branch.

Oswego, NY – Central New Yorkers are being encouraged to interact with scientists who study Lake Ontario fisheries.

The New York State Department of Environment Conservation is holding its annual State of Lake Ontario public meetings next month. Biologists are expected to give presentations on fish populations, and provide updates on restoration and invasive species control efforts.

Tax Credits Available for New Yorkers

Oswego, NY – U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is urging Central New Yorkers to take advantage of available tax cuts.

As tax season gets underway, Gillibrand is touting opportunities for New Yorkers to save on property taxes, new home and car purchases and college tuition.

One particular cut is available for 96 percent of Central New Yorkers. That is the $400 Making Work Pay tax cut, which was part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
