Duffy says he's "in sync" with Cuomo, not planning resignation

Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy says there’s no truth to rumors he will not be campaigning with the governor this fall.

Wait for the facts to come out about him and the governor’s (both Democrats) political plans, Duffy said Tuesday in Buffalo.

Last year Duffy interviewed to become leader of the Rochester Business Alliance – the city he was once mayor of. He withdrew about a week later.

He's not being asked to step aside, he said.

"The governor and I are, as I’ve said so many times, totally in sync. Absolutely no truth what so ever that I’ve being asked to step away from the ticket, not at all, not even a shred of truth to that," he said.

Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney has been rumored as a possible replacement for Duffy. Mahoney is a Republican, but is a supporter and ally of Cuomo. She’s denied those rumors. For his part, Duffy says he doesn’t listen to rumors.

At an event in Onondaga County Tuesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo was asked if he’s spoken with Mahoney about joining the ticket.

"We have not had that conversation," he said.

When asked if he will, Cuomo said, "Well I’m not talking about any politics yet. That assumes I’m running for governor. That assumes my lieutenant governor isn’t running for lieutenant governor, so there are a lot of assumptions there."

Duffy says they’ll hopefully make an announcement in May.
