Flash flood warning posted for Cortland County

CORTLAND, NY – A Flash Flood Warning has been posted for all of Cortland County until 1:45 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The county's been hit hard by minor flooding, caused by heavy rain and melting snow.

County officials say a dozen county roads have suffered some amount of flooding. There is a report that a small bridge has been washed out in the Preble area.

One city street in Cortland is under two feet of water, according to the Weather Service.

Emergency management officials say twelve residents of a trailer park in Preble were evacuated because rising water threatened their homes. They declined the county's offer of a shelter and are staying with friends or relatives.

More severe flooding is closing dozens of roads downstate and in New York City. In Binghamton, forecasters expect severe flooding along the Susquehanna River, which will crest at about 5 feet above flood stage.
