Oswego, NY – A number of environmental groups will be holding a forum at SUNY Oswego tonight exploring nuclear safety after September 11th.
One of those speaking will be Doctor Gordon Thompson, the executive director of the Institute for Resource and Security Studies and a professor at Clark University.
Thompson says one of the main safety concerns at the nation's nuclear plants is the practice of storing nuclear waste on site in large dry casks.
He says those casks are vulnerable to terrorist attacks, and that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission hasn't fully informed the public about the risks associated with dry cask storage.
The nuclear safety forum is free and open to the public.
It is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Sheldon Hall on Washington Street in Oswego.
