Gillibrand would support some military action in Syria

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) says she'll stand by the Obama administration as it considers military action against Syria in light of alleged chemical weapons use against civilians.

During a stop at the New York State Fair, Gillibrand said there's a humanitarian crisis in Syria that must be addressed by the United States and other countries, adding that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad must be put on notice that recent attacks against civilians are unacceptable to the world community.

"Oftentimes we don't engage when innocent lives are being slaughtered. And I always am concerned when we are in those situations in Africa and elsewhere. But this has really reached a crisis level. And I think we should engage on some level," said the senator.

Gillibrand says she would prefer seeing action that would involve knocking out delivery devices to the extent it can be made impossible for another chemical attack.

"I don't support putting our boots on the ground,  I believe that it would have diminishing returns. But I do support some level of engagement that could somehow make it less possible for Assad to continue in this current course," she said.
