Live coverage: 24th Congressional District race

Ryan Delaney | John Katko for Congress

Dan Maffei has conceded in the race for the 24th Congressional District. Republican John Katko wins.

The 24th Congressional District race is one of the highest profile races in central New York. Democrat incumbent Dan Maffei, who has struggled to hold onto this office in the past, is going up against John Katko, a former federal prosecutor and political neophyte.

In the weeks leading up to Election Day, the candidates sparred on a variety of issues important to the citizens of central New York, including: the future of I-81 and campaign finance reform; infrastructure and job loss; the Islamic State and minimum wage; the environment, and on many occasions, the campaign television ads.

Katko focused on poverty in Syracuse -- setting his sights on addressing the problem, while Maffei vowed to protect Social Security benefits for seniors. Both candidate participated in a two-part debate on WRVO's the Campbell Conversations with Grant Reeher, first focusing on campaign commercials, ISIS, and ebola; and in the second focusing largely on domestic policy issues.

The race drew national attention, with House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) visiting the area to stump for Katko. Vice President Joe Biden took his turn stirring up election fervor for Maffei, as did former President Bill Clinton, during separate visits to Syracuse.

All of the coverage, thus far, from the 24th Congressional District race is available online.
