Liverpool roofing company fined for violating safety codes

A Liverpool construction company has been fined more than $60,000 by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, for violating safety codes. This is not the company's first offense.

An anonymous tip prompted the investigation of the Michael C. Graham and Son Construction site.

Syracuse OSHA director Chris Adams says the caller reported that employees of the family-owned roofer were working without fall protection at a site in Liverpool. He says Graham has been cited three times in the past four years.

“It's very few employers that we end up having to issue out willful or repeat violations on because they have failed to come into compliance with the OSHA laws," Adams said.

This comes nearly six months after an employee of A to Z Contracting fell to his death in Camillus while placing shingles on a roof. Also on Friday morning, a steel worker on a job at SUNY Oswego's campus fell to his death.

Michael Graham could not be reached for comment. Adams says that he has not yet responded to the citation.
