Wendy Long challenges Sen. Gillibrand's fiscal record
Republican Senate candidate Wendy Long is challenging Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand's (D-NY) fiscal record.
Long stopped in Syracuse this afternoon on an upstate New York campaign swing.
Taxpayers in New York are sending too much money to Washington, Long contends.
"It's a record of high taxes and high spending and increasing the national debt and slapping all sort of heavy regulations on New York families and businesses," Long said in front of the federal building in downtown Syracuse.
Gillibrand is running for her first full term as a U.S. Senator. She leads Long in both polling cash on hand.
But much of Gillibrand's popularity is based on a lack of information for voters, Long told reporters.
"What I aim to do for the next four months is to acquaint them with that record," she said.
Gillibrand announced today she has $10.5 million dollars in her campaign fund. Long's latest finance numbers aren't out yet, but her last report from before the June primary showed she had about $112,000 dollars on hand and more than that in debt.
