The Rosamond Gifford Zoo is beginning it’s second century in Syracuse.

When the zoo opened it’s doors 100 years ago, visitors were treated to some birds and a bear. Director Ted Fox says it’s important to take stock after a century.

"One hundred years really means a lot to us," Fox said. "It really demonstrates the support of this community from what it was, with four acres and a few animals, to 700 animals and 43 acres now. We’re constantly adding new exhibits.”

Utica's Union Station has been a mainstay in the city's historic Bagg's Square neighborhood since 1914. In that time, the train station went from a bustling transit hub, to nearly being demolished in the 1970s, to a recent resurgence as a public gathering place. This weekend, Utica is celebrating the station's 100th anniversary and some of the things that make it unique.

The Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse is 100 years old this year. To coincide with that anniversary, the zoo has announced a 20-year new action plan that could change the way the zoo looks like in the future.

Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney says the anniversary makes it a great time to look towards the future.

New York State Archives

Wednesday marks 50 years since the famous March on Washington, when more than 200,000 Americans gathered in support of civil rights. Capital correspondent Karen Dewitt sat down with former governor David Paterson, the first African-American to serve as governor of New York state, to talk about the event and its impact on his life.

Karen Dewitt: Gov. Paterson, we’re really glad you could join us to talk about this topic. First of all, I want to know how old you were when the March on Washington happened.

The Onondaga Historical Association turns 150 this year. Friday night they hold a Jubilee Celebration in Syracuse University's Carnegie Hall that also marks the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation.
