Fracking opponents in New York say 'Gasland' movies help

Monday night brought the TV premiere of "Gasland II," a sequel to the original anti-hydrofracking movie. In New York, where Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s decision on fracking is still on hold, both opponents and supporters of the controversial drilling process say the films have helped frame the debate.

"Gasland" filmmaker Josh Fox is a frequent participant in anti-fracking rallies at the state Capitol that routinely attract hundreds of people.

Dueling filmmakers dispute over fracking in Albany

As they await Gov. Andrew Cuomo's decision on whether fracking will go forward in New York, dueling pro- and anti-fracking filmmakers held screenings and promotions for their films in Albany. At one point in their visit, the two sides confronted each other in the halls of the Capitol.

Groups for and against fracking wait for governor's decision

Groups for and against hydrofracking are gearing up for an announcement by Governor Andrew Cuomo’s environmental officials  on whether the natural gas drilling process will be permitted in New York on a limited basis. But, the organizations, who are running ads, may have to wait a little longer.

Alec Baldwin pays a visit to Syracuse

Syracuse got a taste of star power this past weekend as television and film star Alec Baldwin stopped by the Landmark Theater.

Baldwin was there to host a showing of the film “Gasland,” an award-winning anti-hydrofracking documentary.

He also moderated a panel after the movie with experts opposed to hydrofracking and members of the community to discuss the issue. Hydrofracking has been banned in New York while the state reviews concerns over the process for drilling natural gas.
