Programming changes coming in 2016

Dec 17, 2015

WRVO is making a few minor changes to the weekend program schedule starting in 2016. The majority of these changes will take effect on Saturday, January 2. Here's a breakdown of what you can expect:

Join us this week on Public Radio Presents for a special from our friends at Marketplace! The "Marketplace Weekend" team takes a look at where the holidays meet money in "Marketplace Takes Care of Holiday Business" this Sunday, December 6 at 7 p.m.

In this special, we explore the intersection between the holidays and money, tell some stories, and help you financially navigate the holiday season -- figuring out how to make your cousins get along is up to you.

Join us on Sunday, December 13 for "RISK!" with true stories perfect for the holiday season.

"RISK!" is the show where people tell true stories -- true stories they never thought they'd share with anyone. Writers, actors and ordinary people tell their most intimate secrets. It's hilarious, heartbreaking, and often wonderful. Some stories are told on stage at live shows and others are radio pieces.

Join us this Sunday, August 2 for another Re:sound special as part of Public Radio Presents. This week it's "The Randomness Show," with two stories in which random events change lives forever and a third pulled randomly from the phonebook.

"The Long Shadow" by Lea Thau

One day in February, 1997, four young men decided they would go to the top of the Empire State Building. What happened there would cast a long shadow over everything that came after.

"The Ring and I" is a story about the love affair between hundreds of thousands of people and one, colossal, controversial and awe-inspiring piece of work, Wagner's Ring of the Nibelung. Join us this Sunday for this special program on Public Radio Presents.

This is an examination of the ways Wagner's Ring Cycle has inspired passion, impacted culture, and invited controversy over the last 125 years. Hosted by Jad Abumrad, "The Ring and I" asks what many of the uninitiated must wonder: "What's the big deal?"

Reduced signal quality, tower painting

Have you looked out your back window this spring and thought about how much that deck or shed needs a new coat of paint? That's the thought we had when we looked at our antenna tower.

This week, WRVO is taking a few days to paint our 403-foot tower. We'll occasionally need to reduce power for the safety of the painters, which may result in brief periods of reduced signal quality. The painting is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, May 6 through Friday, May 8.

Marketplace Morning Report changes this Monday

Sep 17, 2014

There are a few changes coming to your mornings on WRVO. The Marketplace Morning Report, regularly heard Monday through Friday at 5:51 a.m. and 6:51 a.m., will move starting on Monday, September 22. It will now be heard at 6:51 a.m. and 8:51 a.m.

This change is part of a partnership between Morning Edition and Marketplace, allowing for the best possible coverage of business and economics news. MMR will take the place of NPR's business news segment (now heard at 7:51 a.m. and 9:51 a.m.).

Earlier this year, NPR announced it would end production of Tell Me More with Michel Martin. Currently heard each Monday through Friday at 1 p.m. on WRVO, the last episode of Tell Me More will air on Friday, August 1.
