Welch Allyn preparing for new tax on medical equipment

Despite months of preparation, the CEO of Welch Allyn says a new excise tax on medical supplies will hurt his company's bottom line.

As part of the Affordable Care Act upheld last week by the Supreme Court, a 2.3 percent tax on medical devices sold in the United States will go into effect January 1. The tax is supposed to help pay for the expanded health care coverage.

Welch Allyn gets tax break for energy upgrades

Global medical device maker Welch Allyn was granted the first tax break for energy upgrades to part of its Skaneateles headquarters.

After three years of waiting, the first-ever "energy efficient" tax break has finally been awarded by theĀ Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency (OCIDA).

And the winner is ... Welch Allyn, a global supplier of medical equipment to hospitals and doctor's offices.

Welch Allyn sunk $5 million into putting a LEED Gold certified addition on its research and development building at its Skaneateles headquarters.
