Serial killer is the catalyst in local playwright's new work

Geneva, NY – An area playwright uses the region's most notorious killer to explore the light and dark spots of another man's soul. WRVO's Dave Bullard speaks with Lisa Marra about her play, "Mystic Castle", which involves Arthur Shawcross, the man who killed a dozen prostitutes in Rochester in the 1980s and two children in Watertown in the 1970s.

Ethanol-Slaughterhouse Resolution Reversal

Phoenix, NY – An Oswego County town has taken back a resolution that favored bringing a combination ethanol plant and slaughterhouse to the area.

The Schroeppel town board passed the resolution in December. It said the town favored working with a company called Bion Environmental Technologies, Inc.

The small company approached the town with a big idea a cattle feeding, ethanol-producing, meat-packing operation powered by energy from manure.

As Layoffs Loom, Some State Workers Say They Were Denied Early Retirement

Seneca Falls, NY – New York State offered public employees an early retirement incentive this year to try to trim the workforce and avoid layoffs in the face of projected multi-billion dollar budget deficits.

Now, despite more than 1,100 state workers taking the state up on that offer, Governor Paterson has proposed nearly 900 layoffs by the end of this year. But at a number of state agencies, workers tried to take the incentive and were denied.
