Cancer and your family

Cancer is a scary word and people are often reluctant to talk about. That can make it difficult to find out about your family history of the disease. And even if you do know that many of your relatives have had cancer, would you get tested for it yourself? This week on WRVO's health and wellness show "Take Care," hosts Lorraine Rapp and Linda Lowen speak with Dr. Theodora Ross, who directs the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center's Cancer Genetics Program. Ross is also the author of "A Cancer in the Family: Take Control of Your Genetic Inheritance." As a cancer geneticist and someone who worried about her own family history, Ross discusses the value of genetic testing for inherited forms of cancer.

More of this interview can be heard on "Take Care," WRVO's health and wellness show Saturday at 6:30 A.M. and Sunday at 6:30 P.M. Support for this story comes from the Health Foundation for Western and Central New York.
