Republican presidential canddiate Texas Sen. Ted Cruz campaigns in Cicero ahead of New York's April 19 primary.

This afternoon, Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz held a rally in the town of Cicero. Speaking to a large and enthusiastic crowd, he said jobs, freedom and security are the most important issues in this election. Cruz said repealing Obamacare, passing a flat tax, limiting financial regulations and cracking down on illegal immigration will improve the economy.

“We’re going to see manufacturing jobs back in the state of New York, we’re going to see wages rising all across this country, we’re going to see young people coming out of school with 2, 3, 4, 5 job offers,” Cruz said.

Cruz took several swipes at Republican front-runner Donald Trump, saying nominating him would be a mistake that would ensure a Democratic victory in November. He reiterated his support of Israel and vowed to defeat what he calls radical Islamic terrorism. Cruz also promised not to compromise on religious liberty and 2nd Amendment rights.

Trump is holding rallies in Syracuse and Watertown tomorrow. The third Republican in the race, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, held town halls in Watertown and Utica today.
