Syracuse, NY – Air Innovations, an air conditioning company in North Syracuse, is one of four businesses to win a state grant on Tuesday to help them expand and create jobs.
Company President Mike Wetzle says they make air conditioning units for industries, not home comfort.
"From aerospace to military to medical device, to semi conductor, to wine cellars," said Wetzle.
Air Innovations, and three other companies, were awarded a total of $300 thousand in grant money from the CenterState Corporation for Economic Opportunity to partner with the region's universities to help create new products.
Wetzle says they're developing an air conditioning unit to help people with asthma.
"It's a product we've been developing for several years for use in-home to help asthmatics get a night of sleep where they're free of all the allergens," said Wetzle.
They'll use the grant money to partner with Clarkson University to do more testing to help get the product commercialized.
