Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney announces Miranda Lambert as new amphitheater's first act.

Country music superstar Miranda Lambert will be the inaugural act at Onondaga County’s newly constructed Lakeview Amphitheater.

Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney announced Wednesday that Lambert will appear September 3. Even though that leaves promoters with five weeks to sell tickets, Mahoney is optimistic there will be a full house.

“We’re hoping for a sellout, and tickets are going on sale Friday. The folks at Live Nation tell us that that is possible in this time frame. And next year, if they do it the way they wanted to, they’d go on sale six weeks ahead of time. But five weeks is plenty of time to get tickets sold,” said Mahoney.

The county executive admits it was challenging to find an act for an unbuilt facility, in a short period of time.

“There was a little cynicism whether we would have this ready. So it was hard for promoters to actually book a show in an open field that we promised would be an amphitheater. But secondly, those shows get booked and routed so there are three and four shows a week already booked. And we had to go like a needle and find somebody who had that date available,” said Mahoney.

Ticket prices range from $35 to $95, and include a day’s admission to the New York State Fair, which will be taking place that week as well. The fair features concerts by Patti LaBelle and Meghan Trainor on September 3 as well.

The $50 million Amphitheater will seat 17,500 people.
