Officials with the del Lago Resort & Casino in Seneca County have announced Feb. 1 is the opening date for the $440 million project.
It's one of four new gambling facilities planned for upstate New York.
The general manager for the del Lago resort, Jeff Babinski, says he expects it to eventually become a destination for some convention business as well.
“We’re actually starting to take some; we’ve booked I think one, early already, for October of next year… as people look to stay and keep their business within the region and support local businesses, I expect that we’ll see a handful of businesses who are in Rochester, Syracuse and in the Finger Lakes region who definitely will want to use our facility to host their colleagues and have events.”
Babinski says they already have hired dealers and other staff and they eventually expect to hire a total of 1,500 people when the casino opens next year.
