Open Waste Burning

Oswego, NY – An environmental group is urging the New York State to prohibit the burning of garbage in barrels or refuse heaps. The practice is common in rural areas. The group says "opening burning" is contaminating the food supply with dioxin and other toxic particles.

Pay equity advocates take action

Oswego, New York – Advocates for pay equity in New York have delivered over 2,000 petition signatures to Governor Spitzer and Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno in an effort to protect women and minorities from pay discrimination.

"Project X"

Oswego. NY – Expand,explore,experience and express are the watchwords for a new program in Oswego County that is reaching out to 13-to-16-year olds.
Dubbed "Project X" by its founders, Matt Wood and Gina Holsopple, the program invites its participants to a retreat-like setting to produce an audible work of their own creation as a personal growth experience.

Stress of war and a local soldier's story

Oswego, New York – Much focus has been given this year to the deplorable healthcare treatment soldiers returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were receiving. Most disturbing were the stories of soldiers suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. The Oswego County-area had its own personal story with the struggle faced by Joe Godfrey jr., a 24-year-old who suffered from PTSD when he returned from Iraq, only to be murdered months later as he struggled to get the help he needed from the US military.

Colgate Commencement Speakers

Hamilton, NY – Former ABC news anchor Bob Woodruff survived serious brain injuries that he suffered less than a year-and-a-half ago when a roadside bomb nearly killed him while reporting in Iraq. Woodruff and his wife, Lee, were the commencement speakers at Colgate University where both graduated more than two decades ago.
